There has been a theatre at Sadler’s Wells for over 100 years, but the one that stands today was built in 1998 and is one of the most modern theatres in London. This modern design gives the auditorium extraordinarily good sightlines and acoustics. The name Sadler’s Wells is derived from the original founder of the theatre, Richard Sadler. The venue is of medium size for a London theatre, seating around 1,550 people over three levels: the stalls, first circle and second circle. The Sadler’s Wells Theatre is mostly home to dance work, but does occasionally programme musicals and opera.
