Situated away from the main hustle and bustle of the West End, the Sadler’s Wells Theatre can be found in Islington, North London. This beautiful part of the capital is bursting with interesting things to do and wonderful restaurants, clubs, pubs, bars and cafes. Away from the throng of tourists, this are can be quiet and serene for most of the day. There is also a whole host of fringe theatre in the area, such as the Old Red Lion, the King’s Head Theatre and the Rosemary Branch Theatre. There are several nearby tube and rail stations as well as a number of bus stops linking the area to other parts of London.
Tube
The nearest tube station to Sadler’s Wells is Angel (Northern Line), which is just a five-minute walk away from the theatre. The well-connected Kings Cross (Circle, Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria Lines) and Farringdon (Circle, Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan lines) stations are slightly further away, but offer many transportation links.
From Angel (5 min): Turn right at Angel Station down St John Street. Take a right down Rosebery Avenue. The theatre will be on your left-hand side.
From Farringdon (18 min): Head straight out of the station and turn right onto Farringdon Road towards Angel. Continue up the road for over five minutes and then turn right onto Rosebery Avenue. The theatre will be around an eight-minute walk away on your left-hand side.
From London Kings Cross/St Pancras (20 min): Exit the station and walk down Pentonville Road towards Angel. Turn right at Angel station down St John Street. Take a right down Rosebery Avenue. The theatre will be on your left-hand side.
Bus
Buses to Angel, St John Street: 19, 38, 153, 341.
Buses to Pentonville Road: 30, 73, 205, 214, 476.
Car
The Sadler’s Wells theatre is just located within the London Congestion Charge Zone, which applies weekdays (excluding bank holidays) from 7am until 6pm and costs £10 per day. If you are driving directly to the theatre after 6pm, then you will not be charged.
As the theatre is just inside the Charge Zone, it is possible to park outside the zone and walk to the theatre. The nearest car park outside the zone is in the N1 Islington Centre on Parkfield Street (ten-minute walk). Parking costs £3 per hour before 7pm and £1.50 an hour thereafter until the park closes at 12.30am (2.30am on Friday-Saturday)
Inside the Congestion Charge Zone, there is a much larger 24hr car park on Bowling Green Lane (seven-minute walk.)
