A Chorus Line

The location is New York City. The year is 1975. The scene is an empty Broadway stage, where seventeen performers are put through their paces in the final audition for a new Broadway musical. But only eight of them will succeed. This widely acknowledged musical masterpiece revolutionised Broadway. The show’s creator Michael Bennett spoke to real chorus liners and recorded the conversations. These late-night testimonies celebrate theatre’s unsung heroes via a series of extraordinary tales of ambition, broken dreams, and what it feels like when your hopes are shattered.

This particular version of the well-loved musical was originally produced in 2021 at Curve, directed by Nikolai Foster to significant acclaim. The book is by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, with beautiful music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban. It’s packed with iconic tunes, many of which you’ll recognise. Adam Cooper and Carly Mercedes Dyer reprise their roles as Zach and Cassie. The choreography is described as sensational, the personal stories of the chorus line members as heart-wrenching, and the finale as unforgettable. A classic brought back to searing life, if you love the best vintage musicals the stage has to offer, this one is un-missable.
